Master Rack has managed whitetails since there were only 4 outfitters in the entire state of Alabama. 40 years of experience in this industry is impressive. Especially when you didn’t have the equipment and resources of today. True management practices started getting more intense on feeding and planting as years went by with plenty of experimentation. We settled in on year round clover fields, some summer crops, burn programs and the development of our own private feed. We feed year around with mineral, vitamin and nutrient based feed instead of corn. The health of our herd and the massive drop rate of male deer each year is amazing. Every year we see improvements and are still looking for ways to grow. But every effort is for the whitetail and our customers.
Alabama Whitetail Hunts for Every Season
Alabama has one of the longest deer seasons in the country, running from mid-October to February 10. At Master Rack Lodge, you can hunt with your weapon of choice and time your trip for the deer movement you want to see.
Bow Hunting
(Oct 15 – Nov 20)
Early season is prime time for archery hunters. Deer follow food patterns closely, focusing on acorn-bearing hardwoods and fresh food plots, and hunting pressure is at its lowest. Looking for land reserved for archery? See our archery-only bow hunts on property that hasn’t been hunted with a firearm in more than 30 years.
Muzzleloader Hunts
(Nov 16 – 20)
Alabama’s special muzzleloader season comes just before the rifle opener. Bucks are starting to make scrapes and rubs, and the deer haven’t yet felt gun-season pressure.
Muzzleloader season offers opportunities before rifle season hits the scene.
Rifle Hunts
(Nov 21 – Feb 10)
Our rifle hunts cover the full Alabama gun season, from the pre-rut in November and December through the late-season cold fronts in February.
Hunting the Alabama Rut
The Black Belt rut usually peaks from mid January through February, weeks after rut activity ends in most other states. That’s when mature bucks move during daylight hours, and our rut dates are the first to book every year.

Our buck standards
We manage our land for mature, healthy deer. To protect young bucks and keep quality high year after year, every buck harvested at Master Rack Lodge must meet our minimum standards:
Fines for harvest of a buck that does not qualify are $250 for a spike or a button Buck. $500 for a buck that is larger than a spike, but is smaller than four points on one side and outside the ears. or does not meet the minimum age requirement.
These standards are stricter than Alabama’s statewide rules, and they’re a big part of why our hunters see mature bucks season after season.
Why the Alabama Black Belt Produces Big Deer
Alabama’s Black Belt is named for its dark, fertile soil, which grows the high-protein forage whitetails need for heavier bodies and bigger antlers. Combine that soil with mature hardwood bottoms, managed food plots and year-round feeding programs, and you get some of the most consistent deer hunting in Alabama.
Master Rack Lodge sits in the heart of the Black Belt in Bullock County, an hour from Montgomery.
